Festive Wishes from the President and Prime Minister

New Delhi: On Christmas Day, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared heartfelt greetings with the nation, emphasizing the festival's core messages of love, compassion, peace, and unity.

President Murmu expressed her wishes on social media platform X, stating, "MERRY CHRISTMAS. On this special day, I extend my warmest greetings to all citizens, particularly to our Christian brothers and sisters."

She highlighted that Christmas, a time of joy and celebration, embodies the spirit of love and compassion, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by Lord Jesus Christ for humanity's benefit. The President encouraged citizens to embrace the values of peace, harmony, equality, and service.

Furthermore, she called upon everyone to commit to the teachings of Jesus Christ and strive to create a society rooted in kindness and mutual respect.

Prime Minister Modi also took to X to share his Christmas wishes, saying, "Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas filled with peace, compassion, and hope. May the teachings of Jesus Christ enhance harmony in our society."

Christmas is celebrated globally as a cherished festival, fostering love, joy, and togetherness. It brings families closer, inspires acts of kindness, and embodies the true spirit of giving. The festivities include sharing greetings, decorating trees, and engaging in community events, reflecting a unity that transcends cultural and religious divides.

Celebrated annually on December 25, Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and is associated with themes of hope, peace, forgiveness, and love. While primarily a Christian holiday, its universal message has made it a celebration embraced by diverse communities.

The holiday blends Christian beliefs with ancient winter traditions. Although the Bible does not specify Jesus' birth date, early Christians chose December 25 to coincide with existing winter celebrations. In ancient Rome, festivals like Saturnalia featured feasting, gift-giving, and joyful gatherings around the winter solstice.

By the 4th century, Christmas was officially recognized as a Christian holiday. As it spread throughout Europe and beyond, local customs merged with religious practices, leading to traditions such as decorating evergreen trees, exchanging gifts, singing carols, and celebrating with family becoming integral to Christmas.

Today, Christmas is not only a religious event but also a cultural celebration that promotes values of love, peace, generosity, and togetherness across communities worldwide.
