Woakes Prepares for the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy

Chris Woakes, the fast bowling all-rounder from England, has shared his thoughts ahead of the eagerly awaited Test series against India, now officially called the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.

Despite the series being a major event, Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not participate. Both players announced their retirement from Test cricket in May during the IPL 2025, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the format.

With Rohit Sharma unavailable, Shubman Gill has been elevated to the role of captain, while Rishabh Pant will serve as vice-captain. However, the absence of these senior players has left a significant gap in the Indian batting lineup.

The selectors have made notable changes, including the selection of Sai Sudharsan, who has been performing well in domestic cricket. In a surprising twist, Karun Nair returns to the squad after an eight-year hiatus. Although Shreyas Iyer's exclusion surprised many fans, the selectors clarified that the team composition considers the playing conditions in England.

Woakes, who is set to lead England's bowling attack, showcased his skills in a recent match against India 'A', where he took three wickets, dismissing Jaiswal, Easwaran, and Nair, reminding everyone of his capabilities.

Woakes Expresses Regret Over Missing Stars

During the second India 'A' versus England Lions match in Northampton, Woakes spoke to a sports media outlet, expressing his sentiments about the absence of Rohit and Kohli.

“It’s always good to come up against strong opposition going into a Test series that you know is going to be hard-fought. We’ve had some good battles against Virat and Rohit over the years. For the game itself, it’s a shame they won’t be there.”

He further added,

“But Indian cricket has so much depth; the players who will come in, I’m sure will be of a very high standard, who have proven themselves some way or the other.”

India's tour is set to commence on June 20 in Leeds. With fresh talent stepping in to fill the void left by two cricketing legends, all eyes will be on how the new Indian team adapts to the challenge.
