Chitrakoot's Unique Thief: A Tale of Faith and Crime
Intriguing Crime in Chitrakoot
Chitrakoot News: A bizarre incident involving crime and superstition has emerged from the holy town of Chitrakoot, leaving the police astonished. The methods of a notorious thief caught here resemble a plot straight out of a movie. Authorities have uncovered a gang led by a mastermind who refrained from committing theft himself, instead hiring a Muslim accomplice for the task. This leader believed that stealing from temples would bring him bad karma.
The arrested gang leader, Vijay Shukla, hails from Rajapur in Chitrakoot and has a history of criminal activity. During police interrogation, Vijay revealed shocking details about his beliefs. He expressed a fear of incurring sin from stealing in temples, prompting him to devise a peculiar strategy. He never entered the temples himself; instead, he employed a young Muslim named Babarsah to carry out the thefts.
Observing Rituals and Planning Heists
Vijay's 'religious' pretense didn't stop there. He abstained from committing any crimes on Tuesdays and Saturdays, dedicating these days to visiting various temples with utmost devotion. However, his focus during these visits was not on worship but rather on the valuable crowns, silver and gold canopies, and bells. He used these days to scout locations and meticulously plan his thefts.
Surveillance and Execution
When it was time to execute the theft, Vijay would stand guard outside the temple, ensuring he did not enter to avoid sin. He would send Babarsah inside to remove the crowns and canopies from the idols, which Vijay would then take and flee.
A Cunning Network for Disposal
After the thefts, Vijay melted down the stolen jewelry into gold and silver ingots. He would then sell these ingots to a familiar goldsmith in Agra. The police have also apprehended this goldsmith based on the leads provided by Vijay and Babarsah.
A Notorious Criminal
According to SP Arun Kumar Singh, Vijay Shukla is no ordinary thief. He was involved in a murder case nearly 20 years ago. When his criminal record came to light and police pressure mounted, he changed his identity and moved to Agra. After a long hiatus, he returned to Chitrakoot and resumed targeting temples.
Recovered Stolen Items
The police have successfully recovered items from several temples, including:
- The crown from the Ram Janaki Temple in Bharatkoop.
- The canopy from the Akelwa Baba Hanuman Temple in the Pahadi police station area.
- The mace and other ornaments from the Bal Hanuman Temple in Karvi Kotwali.
How the Arrest Happened
Following a series of thefts, the Chitrakoot police and surveillance team became active. They received information about suspicious individuals staying at a dharamshala in the Arogya Dham area. Acting swiftly, the police raided the location and apprehended gang leader Vijay Shukla, his accomplice Babarsah, and the goldsmith.
