Chinese Robot 'Superman' Breaks Usain Bolt's Speed Record
A New Era in Robotics
BEIJING: The title of the fastest being may now belong to a robot rather than a human. A humanoid robot from China, known as 'Superman', has reportedly surpassed the legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt's speed record. Developed by the robotics company Unitree, this innovative machine claims to achieve an astonishing speed of 12.66 meters per second, equivalent to approximately 45.6 kilometers per hour.
Comparison with Usain Bolt
For context, Usain Bolt reached a peak speed of 12.42 meters per second during his world record-setting 100-meter sprint in Berlin in 2009. The new robot has marginally exceeded that mark. Additionally, 'Superman' is capable of jumping two meters high from a stationary position. Unitree asserts that this robot was developed in a mere three months and anticipates further enhancements to its abilities.
Unitree's Robotics Innovations
Unitree, headquartered in Hangzhou, is making significant strides in the field of robotics, having produced around 18,000 humanoid robots to date. The release of this technology video coincides with the company's plans to list on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. However, experts caution that the comparison is based solely on peak speed and not on a complete 100-meter race against Bolt. They emphasize that independent verification is necessary for the claim to gain official recognition.
