Child Rescued from Deep Borewell in Rajasthan After Hours of Effort
Tragic Incident in Alwar District
Alwar (Rajasthan). A shocking incident occurred on Monday evening in the village of Butoli, located in Alwar district. A young boy, Bhanu, approximately 8 to 9 years old, fell into an open borewell that was about 300 feet deep while chasing a kite. He became trapped at a depth of around 48 feet. After a rescue operation lasting nearly five hours, he was successfully retrieved.
Details of the Incident
On Monday evening, Bhanu, the son of Shishram Gurjar from Butoli village, was running towards the fields. The village was buzzing with kite flying, and in his excitement to catch a fallen kite, he dashed towards a field where an old open borewell was located, covered only by a stone. As Bhanu stepped on the stone, it slipped, causing him to fall directly into the borewell.
The borewell is reported to be between 300 and 400 feet deep. Fortunately, Bhanu got stuck at a depth of 40 to 48 feet and did not fall all the way down, allowing his cries for help to be heard from above.
Rescue Operation
News of the accident spread quickly, causing panic in the village. Local residents gathered at the site, and teams from the police, administration, SDRF, and NDRF arrived promptly. Arrangements were made to provide oxygen and water to the boy. Excavation work began with three to four JCB machines digging a tunnel parallel to the borewell.
The villagers also displayed remarkable ingenuity, attempting to send a local man down upside down to reach Bhanu. After five hours of intense effort, Bhanu was safely pulled out around 11 PM. He was conscious and able to communicate. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors assessed his condition and declared it stable.
The Danger of Open Borewells
This incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by open and abandoned borewells. Many villages have old borewells left uncovered, which can be fatal for children. The administration has issued directives to cover such borewells immediately.
The news of Bhanu's safe rescue brought relief to the entire village. His family and the villagers expressed their gratitude to the rescue teams and the administration. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance regarding children's safety around open pits and borewells.
