Chief Minister Launches Major Infrastructure Projects in Jorhat and Sivasagar

Jorhat, Sept 13: On Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a series of four significant infrastructure projects in Jorhat and Sivasagar districts, with a total investment of Rs 122.20 crore, marking the beginning of his three-day tour in Upper Assam.

Among the projects launched was the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office in Cinnamara, which cost Rs 49.22 crore, along with the Cinnamara railway overbridge, constructed at approximately Rs 65 crore.

The Chief Minister emphasized that these initiatives would enhance public infrastructure in both districts.

“We are unveiling four major projects valued at Rs 122.20 crore in Jorhat and Sivasagar. Prior to the inauguration of the integrated District Commissioner’s office at Cinnamara, I also inaugurated the Cinnamara railway overbridge. Additionally, a two-day conference will commence today, gathering all District Commissioners from across Assam,” Sarma stated.

The newly established integrated complex will accommodate various offices, including those of the Deputy Commissioner, sub-registrar, treasury, food and civil supplies, and election departments.

This complex features a 150-seat auditorium, a 60-seat conference hall, facilities from the National Informatics Centre, provisions for 50 KW of solar power, and parking spaces for 25 cars and 150 two-wheelers.

Sarma noted that this initiative is part of the government’s development program, “Bikashar Babe Eta Poshek,” which was launched on December 15, 2022.

Additionally, the Chief Minister revealed plans to revamp the Bhogdoi riverbank into a modern riverfront park, following a request from Jorhat MLA Hiten Goswami.

“Jorhat MLA Hiten Goswami has requested the transformation of the Bhogdoi Riverbank into a contemporary riverfront park. I assure the citizens that our government will prioritize this development,” Sarma affirmed.

He also mentioned that a new auditorium in Jorhat is expected to be completed within the next two to three months.

The historic Ronga Bhawan, which has served as the Jorhat DC’s office since 1911, will be transformed into a modern museum or experience center, according to Sarma.

This facility will allow visitors to delve into the history of the building and the surrounding region.

The government also plans to integrate departments such as health and education into another complex in the future, minimizing the need for citizens to visit multiple government offices.

“Vacated government land could later be utilized for public amenities like parks,” Sarma added.

Earlier that day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the 545-meter-long Cinnamara railway overbridge, which is approximately 7.5 meters wide and includes two 1.5-meter-wide footpaths for pedestrians.

Sarma highlighted that this overbridge will alleviate congestion at the Cinnamara railway crossing, a long-standing traffic issue.

This marks the fourth flyover or overbridge inaugurated in Jorhat, as part of the government’s initiative to eliminate traffic at railway crossings throughout the state.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister virtually inaugurated the new building of Luitporiya Mising Higher Secondary School in Jorhat and the girls’ hostel at Sivasagar University.

As part of his three-day visit, Sarma will preside over the District Commissioners’ Conference on September 13 and 14.

On September 15, he is set to inaugurate the Auniati University building at Kaliapani in Teok, visit Dhekiakhowa Bornaamghar, and lead a flood review meeting with the deputy commissioners of Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Golaghat.

He will then head to Kaziranga for an overnight stay on September 15, followed by a visit to Bagori on September 16 before returning to Guwahati.
