Development Initiatives Announced in Lanka and Hojai

Guwahati, March 25: During a campaign event in Lanka and Hojai, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented a series of development projects and welfare commitments.

While addressing supporters in Lanka for BJP candidate Sibu Mishra, Sarma revealed plans to enhance educational and sports facilities, alongside expanding youth welfare programs.

“If the BJP is re-elected, we will introduce a Science stream at Lanka College and build a 1,000-seat air-conditioned auditorium in the town. Additionally, two new stadiums will be constructed in Lanka and Kaki, and the existing stadium in Lanka will undergo upgrades,” Sarma stated.

He also promised land rights for the residents of Lanka and Kaki, emphasizing financial aid initiatives aimed at youth empowerment.

“In Lumding, we plan to extend the Orunodoi scheme to an additional 10,000 beneficiaries. Across Assam, we aim to provide government jobs to 200,000 young people. Furthermore, we will assist entrepreneurship by granting Rs 2 lakh each to 1 million youth once we form the government,” he added.

Sarma recalled that last year, approximately 100,000 individuals received Rs 2 lakh to help them establish their ventures, and he assured that this support would be significantly increased in the next term.

“In Lumding alone, 10,000 youths will benefit from Rs 2 lakh. This year, 700 beneficiaries have already received assistance, and we expect this number to reach 10,000 next year. Under the Udyamita scheme, we have provided Rs 10,000 this year, which will rise to Rs 25,000 next year,” he mentioned.

The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of early education, announcing that bicycles would be distributed to students from Class V onwards to promote academic involvement from an early age.

Later, while campaigning in Rajagaon within the Hojai constituency, Sarma addressed the connectivity issues faced by residents in newly incorporated areas due to constituency delimitation.

“We are conducting meetings in Rajagaon, where several panchayats such as Singimari, Borpathar, Borpani, Jodupathar, Ulunguri, and Bakuguri have been added to the Hojai constituency. Residents here encounter significant challenges in accessing Hojai town,” he explained.

Sarma pointed out that the current travel time to Hojai is nearly three hours via Kampur, Kothiyatoli, and the Srimanta Sankardev Nagar highway.

“We will rectify this. Once the BJP is back in power, we will construct a bridge and improve the roads, reducing the travel time from Rajagaon to Hojai to about one hour. I will personally inaugurate it,” he promised.

He also outlined plans to enhance healthcare and educational facilities in the area.

“We will establish a well-equipped hospital in Rajagaon and create a higher secondary school that offers both Assamese and English medium education. Currently, there are only two high schools across six panchayats, with no higher secondary institution. We will also set up a college in Rajagaon,” Sarma concluded.
