Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Critiques Congress Ahead of BTR Elections

Sarma's Strong Remarks on Congress
On July 5, during a press interaction regarding the forthcoming elections in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a fierce critique against the Congress party. He claimed that the Grand Old Party lacks a true commitment to development, branding it a "problematic political party" that has lost the trust of the populace.
Sarma pointed out, "Where is Congress today? Their performance in the Panchayat elections speaks volumes. Expect the same outcome in the BTAD elections," emphasizing that the public has lost confidence in the party's capability to effect change.
While on the third day of his five-day tour in the BTR, Sarma also criticized Congress leaders for their infrequent visits to significant areas such as Kokrajhar. He remarked, "Yesterday, they admitted they have never even been to Kokrajhar. Why is that? Does development only occur when the Chief Minister visits? I was here today, and we have made progress on the roads from Boroma to Masalpur, along with the construction of two new bridges over the Pagladia tributary. Should we also stop visiting and halt development?"
He contrasted his administration's developmental initiatives with what he described as the "legacy of neglect" left by Congress. Sarma highlighted, "Look at Tamulpur now; it boasts a medical college. Could you have imagined that during Congress's tenure? Did you witness the construction of four or five quality roads back then? Did you see two bridges being erected over the Pagladia? Their politics revolves around power; ours focuses on the people."
Sarma urged voters to discern between those who seek power for its own sake and those genuinely committed to enhancing infrastructure, education, and connectivity in the region. He concluded by stating, "The elections in BTR should be approached with a vision for authentic development in the area," calling on all political entities, including UPPL, BPF, Congress, and others, to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
