Chief Minister Critiques Political Alliances in Karbi Anglong
Political Stability in Karbi Anglong Under Threat
Guwahati, Feb 24: On Tuesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a strong critique of the All Party Hill Leaders’ Conference (APHLC), cautioning against political partnerships that he believes could jeopardize the stability of Karbi Anglong.
His comments were prompted by speculation that the Congress party might allocate two seats in the district to APHLC in the forthcoming political landscape.
Speaking at an event in Bokajan, Sarma noted that the residents of Karbi Hills have consistently rejected politics that fosters division and disruption. He warned that any efforts to "revive" such elements would likely result in unrest and agitation within the area.
“Anyone who aligns with APHLC in Jones Ingti Kathar's region will find themselves in troubled political waters. The people of Karbi Hills have already turned their backs on their political tactics. Such approaches will only incite unrest and protests in Karbi Anglong once more. The majority do not support them,” the Chief Minister stated.
He reiterated that the present government is committed to fostering peace, development, and inclusive growth in the hill districts, urging political entities to refrain from forming alliances that could disrupt the stability achieved in recent years.
These statements were made during a program in the Bokajan Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), where he distributed the initial benefits under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) to thousands of women.
Sarma highlighted the significance and reach of the initiative, stating, “Today marks the 115th meeting under MMUA, and we are providing financial support in the 115th constituency out of 126 in Assam. To date, over 28.61 lakh women have benefited from this program. In the near future, an additional four lakh women will be included.”
He also recognized that many eligible beneficiaries had been initially overlooked and assured that the government has implemented corrective actions.
“We have identified and included 1.5 lakh additional women who were previously excluded. In Bokajan alone, 16,395 women will receive their first installment today. Our goal is to enhance the financial independence, dignity, and confidence of every woman,” he added.
The event was attended by senior government officials, local representatives, and a significant number of women beneficiaries.
