Chief Minister Aims to Transform Tamulpur into a Model District

Development Initiatives in Tamulpur
Tamulpur, July 4: In a bid to enhance development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has outlined his vision for Tamulpur to become a model district in Assam. During a meeting with party workers in the area, he urged local BJP leaders to fortify booth-level committees and cultivate a strong youth presence to drive the region's advancement and political stability.
“Although Tamulpur is a newly established district, our goal is to set a benchmark for the entire state,” Sarma remarked.
He further stated, “From the establishment of Tamulpur as a district to the approval of a medical college and the planning of new infrastructure such as a stadium in Oubari next month, our focus is on creating opportunities for all.”
The Chief Minister pointed out Tamulpur’s strategic location, emphasizing its tourism potential due to its proximity to Bhutan. “With the right facilities and effective promotion, Tamulpur can attract tourists and create local job opportunities,” he noted.
Sarma criticized previous Congress administrations for neglecting the region, stating, “Past Chief Ministers rarely visited Tamulpur. Did you ever see Tarun Gogoi here? I am committed to engaging with the community directly.”
Reiterating his dedication to equality and peace in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Sarma asserted, “There should be no second-class citizens in BTR. Everyone deserves equal access to facilities and opportunities. Our focus is on peace and development, not merely political gain.”
The Chief Minister called on party workers to ensure that every booth is active and robust in preparation for the upcoming elections.
“In the past, we contested elections just for the sake of participation. This time, we aim to win, which requires empowering our booths. I expect every booth secretary to provide me with a list of 21 members this month. We will also establish a youth group in each booth to better engage with younger voters,” he stated.
Sarma emphasized that a significant BJP victory in Tamulpur would send a powerful message throughout Assam.
“If we succeed here, it will demonstrate that Congress is ineffective and that the BJP will regain power. However, beyond politics, it is crucial that we continue the peace and development journey we initiated in BTR five years ago,” he added.
Discussing future projects, Sarma assured that the government is dedicated to timely completion of the medical college and other infrastructure developments.
“Tamulpur is making significant progress — our rice procurement has exceeded targets, reflecting the determination of our farmers and residents,” he concluded.
He ended with a call for unity, stating, “We are not here to overshadow the BTC but to foster its growth. Politics should not interfere with peace. If we work together, we can make Tamulpur a true model for all of Assam.”
