Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud has called for the integration of technology and artificial intelligence in the Indian judiciary to enhance justice delivery. Speaking at a Madhya Pradesh High Court event, he highlighted the importance of these advancements in preventing time wastage and ensuring efficient judicial processes. The Chief Justice also inaugurated a new digital platform aimed at empowering justice. He emphasized the judiciary's commitment to utilizing technology for the public's benefit and announced the formation of a committee to explore AI's role in expediting case resolutions. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to modernizing the judicial system across India.

Advocating for Technological Advancement in Justice Delivery

On Saturday, Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud emphasized the importance of leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to enhance the judicial framework and expedite the delivery of justice in India. He highlighted that technology is the most effective solution to prevent wastage of time within the judiciary, asserting the commitment of the Indian judicial system to maximize the use of technological advancements and AI for the benefit of the common man. His remarks were made during a program focused on empowering justice through the integration of a unified digital platform, organized by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Additionally, he inaugurated the newly developed digital platform of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

He stated that the Indian judiciary has been committed to ensuring the optimal use of technological advancements since 1990, and it is also dedicated to ensuring the application of the latest AI designs in the interest of the public. The Chief Justice further noted the necessity of contemplating the strengthening of a technology and AI-based judicial structure. He reiterated that technology is the only effective means to curb the wastage of time in the judiciary and stressed the need for adopting technological advancements to accelerate the justice delivery system. Commending the Madhya Pradesh High Court for developing these platforms, he echoed the words of Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Union Minister of Law and Justice, who stated that such technological advancements need to be implemented at a national level.

According to him, the Supreme Court has established a committee to discuss the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the judicial system, particularly for the swift resolution of cases. This event also featured speeches from Minister Meghwal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Chief Justice Sanjeev Sabharwal of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
