Chidambaram's Optimism for DMK's Success

Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has expressed strong confidence that the DMK-led coalition will secure a significant majority in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. He emphasized that the BJP will not be accepted in the state, stating that the door is firmly closed for them. According to Chidambaram, the people of Tamil Nadu will never embrace the BJP, and he noted that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah lack credibility in the region, which extends to Edappadi K. Palaniswami as well.

Reflecting on the coalition's electoral history, Chidambaram highlighted their past victories, asserting that the DMK-led alliance has been tested in the last four elections, including the current one. He mentioned their success in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and a substantial win in the 2021 assembly elections, predicting that they will also triumph in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, claiming all 39 seats. He stated that their goal is to win as many of the 234 assembly seats as possible, confidently asserting that they will achieve a comfortable majority.

In response to criticisms aimed at the AIADMK regarding their inaction on the defeat of the women's reservation bill in Parliament, Chidambaram dismissed these claims as false. He asserted that their statements stem from ignorance, labeling them as outright lies. He clarified that the women's reservation has already been incorporated into the Constitution, with the 106th amendment passed by both houses in September 2023. He urged critics to read the amendment, which added Article 344A, emphasizing that they are completely mistaken. He reiterated that if they insist that the Congress did not support women's reservation, it is a blatant falsehood.

Chidambaram also backed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's assertion that the RSS and BJP are attempting to infiltrate Tamil Nadu. He stated that they have been voicing this concern for the past decade, and the people of Tamil Nadu have listened, ensuring that the BJP remains excluded from the state. He reiterated that the BJP-led coalition will be kept out of Tamil Nadu in this election as well. Previously, Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP-AIADMK alliance, accusing them of trying to replace Chief Minister M.K. Stalin with a puppet from the AIADMK. Speaking at a rally in Thuraiyur, Gandhi claimed that the BJP and RSS are employing these tactics because they harbor disdain for Tamil Nadu's traditions, culture, and language, asserting that Tamil is not just a language but the soul of the Tamil people.
