Chhattisgarh's Bijapur District Faces Renewed Violence: Two Murders Linked to Maoist Insurgency

Violence Erupts in Bijapur

Raipur: A new wave of violence has struck Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, where two individuals, including a local 'Shiksha Doot' (a term for educators in remote, Maoist-affected regions), were discovered dead in the forests of Pilur village on Tuesday.

One of the deceased has been identified as Vinod Made, an education worker who was reportedly kidnapped by Maoists the previous evening. His body, along with that of another unidentified person, was located near the Farasgarh police station, according to police sources.

In response, police forces have been deployed to the village to search for Maoist militants.

Residents claim that the murders were motivated by suspicions of the victims being police informants, although official confirmation from authorities is pending.

Eyewitness accounts and local media indicate that Naxalites left pamphlets near the victims, accusing them of providing information to security forces.

This incident has reignited fears in a region that has long been plagued by Maoist violence.

This attack is part of a troubling trend, as Bijapur has seen a series of similar killings in the last two weeks, with six people, including two students, executed by Maoists on the grounds of being informers.

The Bastar region, which includes Bijapur and its neighboring districts, has recorded over 1,800 deaths due to Maoist violence since Chhattisgarh was established in 2000.

Security forces have initiated a search operation in the area, and the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating Naxalism by March 2026, a deadline set earlier this year by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

On June 17, three villagers, including a 13-year-old boy and a 20-year-old college student, were also murdered by Naxalites in Peddakorma village of Bijapur. The victims were identified as Anil Madvi, a Class 7 student, and Soma Modiyam, a recent high school graduate.

Since the formation of Chhattisgarh in 2000, Naxalites have been responsible for at least 1,821 deaths across the seven districts of Bastar, with Bijapur experiencing the highest casualty rate.

The victims have included civilians, former militants, and elected officials.
