Chennai Super Kings Face Setback as Jamie Overton Injured
CSK's Playoff Aspirations Diminished
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have encountered a significant setback in their quest for a playoff spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, as all-rounder Jamie Overton has returned to England due to a right thigh injury. While the team has not disclosed how long Overton will be sidelined, it appears unlikely that he will participate in the final three league matches. CSK's next challenge is against the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday.
Details on Overton's Injury
CSK confirmed on social media that, "Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management." This announcement was made on Wednesday night.
Overton's Performance This Season
Currently, Overton stands as CSK's second-highest wicket-taker, having claimed 14 wickets with an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 18.89. He was recently named Player of the Match for his impressive performance of 3 wickets for 36 runs in CSK's last game, which resulted in a five-wicket victory over LSG at Chepauk on May 11.
Macneil Noronha Joins CSK
In other news, CSK has announced the signing of all-rounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for the injured Ramakrishna Ghosh. Ghosh, who played only one match this season against the Mumbai Indians on May 2, suffered a right foot injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Noronha, hailing from Karnataka, will join CSK for a fee of Rs 30 lakh. He recently received the MA Chidambaram Trophy at the Naman awards for being the top run-scorer in the 2024/25 Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy, amassing 1,037 runs in 14 innings with a highest score of 345 and an average of 79.77.
