Chennai Super Kings Coach Optimistic About Dewald Brevis's Return

Dewald Brevis's Recovery Update

Stephen Fleming, the head coach of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has shared that the team is taking a cautious approach to Dewald Brevis's recovery. He expressed hope that Brevis will be ready for the upcoming match. The young player has been sidelined for the first three matches of the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a side strain. With a five-day interval before CSK faces Delhi Capitals (DC) after their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Fleming is optimistic about Brevis's return. The next game is scheduled for April 11 at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

"We are hopeful that Dewald will be fit for the next game. With five days until our next match, we have taken a conservative approach. If everything goes according to plan, he should be ready. His absence has been a significant setback, but we are eager to have him back," Fleming stated during the CSK-RCB match, as reported by a sports news outlet.

Consequences of Brevis's Absence

The absence of Brevis has been a considerable disadvantage for CSK, contributing to their losses in the first three matches of the IPL.

Brevis's Path to Recovery

Ahead of CSK's match against Punjab Kings at Chepauk, Brevis practiced batting in the nets on April 2 and engaged in throwdowns for nearly 20 minutes with assistant coach Rajiv Kumar before the RCB clash.

Brevis's Previous Performance and Future Role

Dewald Brevis joined CSK as a replacement player in IPL 2025 and quickly became a standout performer in a challenging season, where the team finished last in the points table. He accumulated 225 runs in six innings at an impressive strike rate of 180.00, hitting 17 sixes off just 125 balls. CSK has retained him for IPL 2026, and once he regains full fitness, he is expected to play a crucial role in the middle order.
