Chennai recently hosted its inaugural 5i50 Triathlon and DuYoska Duathlon, featuring over 650 athletes from various categories, including international participants. The event, which was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister, showcased impressive performances, with Indian athletes dominating the podium. Due to safety concerns, the swimming segment was canceled, but the race continued with a modified format. Winners included Adarsh MS and Arthi Nainar in the Open categories, while the DuYoska Duathlon added a global touch to the weekend. Exciting Triathlon Event in Chennai

On Sunday morning, Indian athletes showcased remarkable performances during the IRONMAN group's inaugural 5i50 Triathlon in Chennai, which also marked the city's first Olympic Distance Triathlon event. The event was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, alongside notable officials including Satyabrata Sahu, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Government, and Sneha D, IAS, District Collector of Chengalpattu. The event attracted 650 athletes from various categories, including international participants from six different countries, creating an exhilarating atmosphere.


Safety Measures in Race Format

In light of unfavorable water conditions, the swimming segment of the 5i50 Triathlon Chennai was omitted to prioritize athlete safety. The race proceeded with a revised format consisting of a 5 km run, followed by a 40 km cycling segment, and concluding with another 10 km run, ensuring a competitive yet secure endurance challenge for all participants.


Results and Winners of the 5i50 Triathlon

Adarsh MS emerged victorious in the Open Men's category, completing the course in an impressive time of 2:05:14. In the Open Women's category, Arthi Nainar claimed the top spot with a time of 2:55:23. The relay category saw SOL Fitness take first place with a time of 2:21:36, followed by Boss of Tri in second at 2:26:13, and 5121 Strivers finishing third in 2:39:47. The event highlighted the growing talent and competitive spirit of Indian triathletes.


Looking Ahead: The Future of IRONMAN in Chennai

Deepak Raj, CEO of Yoska and Country Head of IRONMAN India, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating, "The turnout today, especially from first-time participants, indicates that the 51.5 KM Triathlon serves as an excellent introduction for those interested in the IRONMAN 70.3 KM race in Goa. We anticipate increased participation in future events, and we are eager to return to Chennai next year, thanks to the support from the government and SDAT."


DuYoska Duathlon Series Adds Global Flair

In conjunction with the 5i50 Triathlon, the DuYoska Duathlon brought the esteemed World Classic Duathlon Series to India, enhancing the endurance weekend in Chennai. This event featured various race categories tailored for athletes of all levels and ages, including a Sprint Duathlon with a 5 km run, 20 km cycling leg, and a final 2.5 km run, as well as a Standard Duathlon comprising a 10 km run, 40 km cycling leg, and a concluding 5 km run.


Sprint and Standard Duathlon Winners

In the Sprint Duathlon, Logidhas Rajasekaran secured the men's title with a time of 1:25:56, while Anee Verma triumphed in the women's category, finishing in 1:35:57. For the Standard Duathlon, Sapan Panchal took first place in the men's division with a time of 2:06:05, and Mohanadevi K emerged as the women's winner, clocking in at 3:19:26.
