Charges Filed Against SP MP and Others in Violence Case in Sambhal

Legal Proceedings in Sambhal Violence Incident
In a significant development, a chargesheet has been submitted against Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Jiya-ur-Rehman Bark and 22 others in connection with the violence that erupted near the historic Jama Masjid in the Kot Garvi area of Sambhal district last November.
However, no evidence was found against Sohail Iqbal, the son of the previously named SP legislator Iqbal Mahmood, leading to his exclusion from the chargesheet.
According to a statement from Sambhal's Superintendent of Police, Krishna Kumar Vishnoi, the chargesheet was filed in the MP-MLA court located within the Chandausi district court premises, pertaining to case number 335/2024 registered at the Sambhal police station.
Vishnoi noted that the investigation revealed no involvement of Sohail Iqbal in the incident, which is why he has been omitted from the final chargesheet. The violence had erupted during a survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid on November 24, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 29 others, including police and administrative officials.
The case initially included charges against MP Bark, Sohail Iqbal, and approximately 700-800 unidentified individuals. So far, 92 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Earlier, on March 25, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) served a notice to Bark at his residence in Delhi. Subsequently, on April 8, SIT officials, led by Asmoli Circle Officer Kuldeep Singh, interrogated him for nearly four hours at the Nakhasa police station.
