The Forest Non-Gazetted Employees’ Union of the Chamba Forest Division has vehemently denounced the violent attack on Van Mitra Om Prakash, aged 25, who was on duty in the Khairna Beat of the Churah Forest Division.

Union representatives expressed their profound anger, labeling the incident as a cowardly act. They emphasized that targeting a uniformed worker undermines the morale of the entire department. Reports indicate that Om Prakash was on duty when he was assaulted with sticks and threatened with death.

The Union firmly stated that such acts of violence against personnel on duty will not be tolerated. They pledged their unwavering support to Om Prakash, promising both legal and administrative assistance to ensure he receives justice.

Despite several hours having elapsed since the attack, the perpetrators remain at large, which the Union considers a serious issue. They have called on law enforcement and administrative bodies to act promptly to apprehend the offenders, warning that inaction could lead to more assaults on government employees.

Additionally, the Union has urged higher authorities to enhance security measures for personnel patrolling vulnerable forest regions. They stated, “Van Mitras are essential to our department, protecting forests in challenging terrains. If those who protect our forests are not safe, how can we expect to safeguard the forests themselves?” They are pressing for immediate action from the police and administration.
