Chamba District Welcomes New Electric and Diesel Buses to Enhance Local Transport
Introduction of New Buses in Chamba
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has officially launched a fleet of 10 electric and 10 diesel buses in Chamba district, significantly improving the region's transportation network. Following a ceremonial ritual, he initiated the first electric bus route from Chamba to the Mata Shri Chintpurni Ji temple, passing through Banikhet, Dunera, Sadwan, Nurpur, Dhameta, and Talwara.
Electric Buses Tailored for Tough Terrain
Agnihotri highlighted that these electric buses are specifically engineered to navigate the challenging landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, with drivers receiving specialized training for their operation. The state currently operates 297 electric buses, all backed by a 12-year maintenance guarantee from the manufacturer. He remarked that this marks the inaugural operation of electric buses in Chamba, calling it a momentous occasion.
Future Plans for HRTC
The Deputy CM also announced upcoming recruitment for drivers and conductors within the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to enhance service quality. He mentioned the phasing out of 500 older buses, the regularization of employees, and the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme.
Inspection of Development Projects
Following the bus launch, Agnihotri visited the Shri Chandrashila Temple to offer prayers and subsequently inspected various ongoing development projects. He reviewed the ₹27.41 crore auditorium being constructed by the Language & Culture Department, urging for its completion within two months. Additionally, he assessed the ₹8 crore multi-storey car parking facility in Chamba, instructing officials to adhere to the construction timeline.
Enhancing Local Tourism
At Mangla, he evaluated a ₹2 crore rest house being developed by the Jal Shakti Department, emphasizing its dual purpose of serving departmental needs and enhancing tourism in the area.

The event saw the presence of notable figures including former Education Minister Asha Kumari, Chamba MLA Neeraj Nayyar, HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma, HRTC Board members, District Congress leaders, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal, SP Vijay Saklani, and senior officials from the Jal Shakti Department and other sectors.

Agnihotri reiterated that the introduction of electric buses is a step towards fostering eco-friendly transportation, while the ongoing infrastructure projects are set to bolster Chamba's facilities and tourism appeal.
