Chamba District Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Trafficking
Chamba's Strong Stance Against Drug Crimes
Subhash Mahajan, the Deputy Commissioner of Chamba, has mandated rigorous legal measures against those engaged in drug trafficking and the illicit sale of narcotics, including actions against properties obtained through such unlawful activities.
During a district-level meeting of the Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) held at the National Informatics Centre via video conference, the Deputy Commissioner assessed the current initiatives aimed at combating drug abuse and promoting awareness about the dangers of narcotics. He urged officials to enhance both enforcement and educational efforts.
Repswal also highlighted the importance of adhering to the COTPA Act, instructing Sub-Divisional Magistrates, police personnel, and relevant authorities to take action against illegal tobacco sales and smoking in public areas. He called for measures against the distribution of chewing tobacco, unauthorized practitioners, and unlicensed Ayurvedic medicine vendors.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for effective utilization of trained personnel for awareness campaigns and approved the installation of digital displays at popular tourist spots such as Banikhet and Dalhousie to disseminate anti-drug messages.

PG College Rakesh Rathore, Punit Mahajan from Sahastrabdi Polytechnic Institute, and OSD Education Umakant Anand, among others.
Police Actions Against Drug Trafficking
Police Action in 2026 (up to August 30):
- 62 cases registered under the NDPS Act
- 88 individuals arrested
- 17.516 kg of charas seized (30 arrests)
- 548.8 g of heroin seized (57 arrests)
- Seizures also included 216.9 g of gold, 479 g of silver, two iPhones, and ₹64,640 in cash
- 2.169 kg of poppy husk seized (1 arrest)
- 868 poppy plants destroyed
The Chamba police are actively pursuing a robust campaign against drug trafficking, ensuring consistent and effective enforcement throughout the district.
This initiative highlights the administration's zero tolerance policy towards narcotics and its dedication to protecting the youth and the community.
