Cessna Training Aircraft Skids Off Runway at Baramati Airport

Incident Overview

New Delhi, August 9 - A Cessna C172 training aircraft skidded off the runway at Baramati Airport on Sunday afternoon, resulting in damage to the aircraft. Fortunately, none of the two individuals on board sustained injuries, and there were no casualties reported, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Investigation Underway

The ministry stated that a team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is heading to the site to conduct an initial investigation. This team will assess the circumstances and factors that led to the incident. The aircraft, operated by Karver Aviation's flight training academy, went off the runway around 12:25 PM.

Damage Assessment

The ministry confirmed that there were no injuries reported in the incident. However, preliminary damage was noted on the aircraft's propeller, engine cowling, and front landing gear. A detailed evaluation of the damage will be carried out by the relevant authorities. The aircraft was engaged in a 'Circuit and Landing Emergency (CL Emergency)' training exercise.

Flight Details

The flight instructor, Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode, was in command of the aircraft, accompanied by trainee Abhijit Jundre. According to the ministry's statement, the aircraft took off for the scheduled training exercise at approximately 12:09 PM.

Training Exercise Description

The statement elaborated that during the exercise, the aircraft reached the runway via Link Bravo and was positioned at the beginning of Runway 29, where an unauthorized flight maneuver was conducted. Subsequently, the aircraft moved to the beginning of Runway 11 for another unauthorized take-off practice. The ministry noted that during the exercise, the aircraft could not stop within the paved runway area and subsequently veered off to the right, moving beyond the paved section from Runway 29.
