Support for Anti-Encroachment Efforts

During an anti-encroachment initiative in the Chomu area of Jaipur, a stone-pelting incident occurred near a mosque, prompting Central Minister Giriraj Singh to express his backing for the campaign. Singh emphasized that the Rajasthan government is actively addressing illegal encroachments and that these efforts will continue in the region. Speaking to reporters, he remarked that the demonstrators aim to showcase their strength, but the government will not be intimidated.

Government's Stance on Encroachments

Singh reiterated that the Rajasthan administration is committed to tackling illegal encroachments, clarifying that the presence of encroachments near a mosque does not exempt them from removal. He stated that while some may wish to display power, the government remains resolute and will persist with the anti-encroachment operations. The long-standing dispute regarding alleged encroachments near a mosque in Chomu escalated into violence on Friday, prompting police to take immediate action to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control, resulting in arrests, a heavy police presence, and the suspension of internet services.

Police Response to Violence

Rahul Prakash, the Special Police Commissioner of Jaipur, reported that individuals attempting to disrupt peace have been identified and detained. He mentioned, "Those who appeared suspicious were taken into custody. There were also attempts to protest against the police in certain areas, and those individuals have been apprehended as well. The situation is now peaceful." Prakash further noted that many of those detained are habitual offenders and warned that those who manage to escape will soon be captured.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred near the Kalandari mosque, where a long-standing dispute over alleged encroachments has been ongoing. Police officials indicated that one party involved in the dispute had voluntarily removed the contentious structure earlier. However, tensions flared again when some individuals reportedly attempted to re-establish the structure permanently using iron angles.
