Assessment of Flood Relief Operations in Assam

Guwahati, August 5 - On Wednesday, Union Minister J.P. Nadda conducted a review of the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected regions of Assam. Accompanying him were Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials from the state government. Earlier in the day, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare visited the flood-hit areas of Sivasagar alongside Chief Minister Sarma, where they assessed the damage and met with the families of the deceased.

In the evening, he participated in a high-level review meeting at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Dibrugarh, focusing on the current flood situation. Nadda shared on social media that after touring the affected areas, he convened with Chief Minister Sarma and state administration officials in Dibrugarh to evaluate the flood conditions. He emphasized the importance of ensuring timely assistance reaches every affected family and conducted a thorough review of ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and health service measures.

He noted that the central government is collaborating with the Assam government to provide extensive support for relief, rehabilitation, and the swift restoration of normalcy in the flood-impacted areas. The Chief Minister's office reported that the meeting discussed the assessment of ongoing relief operations and strategies to restore normalcy in the affected regions. The flood situation in Assam worsened on Wednesday.

With six additional fatalities, the death toll from this year's floods has risen to 95, while the number of affected individuals across 14 districts has surged to 160,000.
