Minister's Commitment to Farmers and Rural Development

On Thursday, Central Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that this year's Rabi crop has been exceptionally fruitful, expressing his hopes for the prosperity of farmers. Speaking to reporters at a gathering in Shirdi, he emphasized the government's dedication to the welfare of farmers, the underprivileged, and rural development. Chouhan stated that achieving the vision of a 'Developed India' is possible through comprehensive rural development.

He highlighted the significance of the 'VB-G RAM G' scheme, asserting its potential to facilitate overall development in rural areas.

Focus on Rural Infrastructure and Livelihood Improvement

Chouhan reiterated his optimism for the farmers, wishing for divine blessings to continue and for them to attain great prosperity. He declared this year as one focused on the welfare of the poor and the development of villages. The 'Developed India' vision and the 'VB-G RAM G' scheme are crucial for achieving holistic rural development, and he mentioned his participation in a program under this initiative.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure, enhancing livelihoods, and ensuring inclusive development in villages.

Legislative Developments and Opposition Response

Earlier on Friday, Parliament passed the VB-G RAM G Bill, which received approval from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Opposition members staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha, demanding that the bill be sent to a select committee before its passage. The bill was approved in the Lok Sabha on December 18, 2025, and subsequently passed by the Rajya Sabha amidst strong opposition on the morning of December 19.

In the meantime, Chouhan remarked that this bill will play a crucial role in the welfare of the poor, accusing the Congress party of disrespecting Mahatma Gandhi's ideals. The legislation guarantees 125 days of wage employment for each adult member of rural families, an increase from the current 100 days, applicable to those willing to engage in unskilled physical labor. According to Section 22 of the bill, the funding distribution ratio between the center and states will be 60:40, while for northeastern states, Himalayan regions, and Union Territories like Jammu and Kashmir, the ratio will be 90:10.
