Minister's Concerns Over Legislative Disruptions
During a session marked by persistent disruptions from opposition parties, Central Minister Chirag Paswan expressed his bewilderment regarding the opposition's refusal to allow legislative work to proceed. He stated that the government is open to discussions on any topic, urging that at the very least, Parliament should function, allowing questions to be raised and discussions to take place.
Paswan accused the opposition of employing political tactics aimed at misleading the public by raising contentious issues. He specifically criticized Rahul Gandhi, alleging hypocrisy regarding discrepancies in the voter list for the upcoming Maharashtra elections. He noted that while the Congress leader has previously raised concerns, they are now opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, which is intended to address any issues with the voter list.
He further remarked, "Rahul Gandhi claimed through Congress that he had highlighted the issue of duplicate votes in the Maharashtra elections. However, now that you have raised a complaint, how do we rectify it? This can only be resolved through SIR, yet you oppose its implementation." Paswan criticized opposition parties for their consistent pattern of misleading the public, referencing their accusations against the government during the CAA-NRC protests.
On the third day of the monsoon session, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced significant disruptions due to ongoing protests from opposition MPs. As a result, both houses have been adjourned until July 24, with plans to reconvene at 11 AM on Thursday. The opposition's protests were fueled by various issues, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Election Commission in Bihar, the Pahalgam attack, and repeated claims regarding peace talks between India and Pakistan by U.S. President Donald Trump.
