Central Government Enhances Security for TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Amid Political Changes
Increased Security Measures for TMC MP
Following a threat assessment conducted by central agencies, the government has assigned armed 'Y' category security from CISF to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, effective from May 19. Officials familiar with the situation disclosed this information on Wednesday. According to these officials, the security arrangements were implemented immediately after evaluating potential threats to the TMC MP. An unnamed official stated that armed personnel have been deployed for her safety during travel and public events. This decision has drawn political attention, particularly as it coincides with significant changes in the parliamentary leadership of the TMC.
Recently, party leader Mamata Banerjee replaced Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as the chief whip in the Lok Sabha with senior MP Kalyan Banerjee. This reshuffle is perceived as part of the party's efforts to strengthen coordination and parliamentary management ahead of crucial political confrontations in the upcoming parliamentary session. Kalyan Banerjee, known for his assertive interventions in the Lok Sabha, has previously held the position of chief whip but was later removed from it. His return is viewed as a sign of renewed confidence within the party leadership.
These developments have sparked speculation in West Bengal's political circles, especially since Dastidar recently shared a message on social media reflecting on her long political journey and commitment to the party. Although she did not directly comment on her removal from the parliamentary position, her message has ignited discussions within the TMC. However, officials clarified that the decision to provide CISF security was solely based on security concerns and potential threats, unrelated to the internal political dynamics of the party.
