Central Government Allocates ₹379.35 Crore to Assam for Flood Relief

Significant Financial Aid for Assam's Flood Recovery

New Delhi, Aug 2: On Saturday, the Central government announced an advance release of ₹379.35 crore to Assam, marking the first installment from the Central share under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the fiscal year 2026-27. This funding aims to support the state as it grapples with severe flooding during one of its most challenging monsoon seasons.

This financial assistance is part of a larger package of ₹2,117.85 crore allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to seven states affected by floods, aimed at bolstering relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts amid the ongoing southwest monsoon.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the government's dedication to providing necessary support to states impacted by natural disasters. He assured that the Central government would closely monitor the flood situation and ensure timely assistance for relief and recovery initiatives.

The MHA noted that it has been in constant communication with state governments since the monsoon began, offering all possible support. This includes the pre-deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and logistical aid from the Ministry of Defence to facilitate rescue and relief operations.

To underscore the severity of the flooding in Assam, the MHA mentioned that Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have been dispatched to evaluate the damage. Two IMCT visits have already taken place in Assam, highlighting the extent of destruction and the necessity for ongoing damage assessments. Similar teams have also been sent to Arunachal Pradesh, and an IMCT is being formed for Nagaland at the request of its state government.

Among the northeastern states, Assam received the highest allocation on Saturday, while Arunachal Pradesh was granted ₹44.55 crore as an advance release.
