Patna, June 30: A joyous wedding celebration in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, turned chaotic when celebratory gunfire reportedly injured three individuals during the baraat welcome ceremony in Parsauni Jahangir village, under the jurisdiction of Sahebganj police station.
The incident occurred late Monday night, causing guests to flee in fear as gunshots rang out.
Law enforcement arrived promptly after being alerted and initiated an investigation into the incident.
As per police reports, the wedding procession for Kedar Tiwari, son of Devsharan Tiwari from Jagirha village in East Champaran district, had just reached Mukesh Pathak's residence in Parsauni Jahangir village.
During the traditional 'darwaza lagna' ceremony, while guests were singing and dancing, an individual reportedly discharged a firearm in celebration.
Witnesses indicated that approximately three shots were fired, leading to injuries among three attendees.
One of the injured, a tent house worker named Anil Paswan, has been admitted to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for medical care.
Local sources revealed that the other two injured were part of the wedding party and are currently receiving treatment at a private facility, although police are still working to confirm their identities and medical status.
Sahebganj SHO Sunil Kumar confirmed the report of three injuries due to the celebratory gunfire.
He mentioned that one of the injured has been identified, while efforts are ongoing to ascertain the identities of the other two individuals.
Authorities are interrogating attendees of the wedding to identify the person responsible for the gunfire.
Additional SHO Ashok Ram and Sub-Inspector Nitish Kumar have been tasked with the investigation.
Police officials assured that the individual who fired the weapon will be identified, and appropriate legal measures will be enforced.
This incident underscores the persistent risks associated with celebratory gunfire at weddings and public events, which have led to injuries and fatalities despite stringent laws against such practices.
