End of Purushottam Month Marks New Ceremonial Opportunities

The sacred Purushottam (Adhik) month, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, came to a close on June 15, accompanied by various rituals and prayers. According to Pandit Aman Shastri, the Chief Acharya of the Radha Krishna Temple at Sanatan Dharma Sabha in Dalhousie Cantonment, this holy month is of great importance for activities such as chanting, penance, charity, fasting, and devotion to Lord Vishnu. It is important to note that marriages and other auspicious events are not permitted during this time.

With the end of the Purushottam month, all auspicious social events, including marriages, housewarmings, naming ceremonies, mundan, and sacred thread rituals, are set to resume starting from June 16, 2026. Preparations are already underway across the region, with venues, dharamshalas, bands, and related businesses experiencing a surge in activity.

Pandit Shastri elaborated that texts like the Padma Purana regard the Purushottam month as a divine manifestation of Lord Krishna, emphasizing that virtuous actions taken during this period bring abundant blessings. Throughout the month, devotees engaged in worship, bhajan-kirtan, satsangs, and various religious practices.

He also pointed out that the upcoming period will be spiritually rich, featuring festivals such as Devshayani Ekadashi, Guru Purnima, Nag Panchami, Raksha Bandhan, Shri Krishna Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi, all to be celebrated with devotion and joy. The month of Shravan will also include special worship dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Pandit Aman Shastri extended his best wishes to the community, encouraging everyone to uphold dharma, traditions, and Sanatan values, while wishing for prosperity, happiness, and auspicious new beginnings for all.
