Celebration of Dimasa Culture: The Busu Festival Kicks Off in Haflong
Festivities Begin for the Dimasa Community's Busu Festival
Haflong, Feb 5: The Dimasa community's two-day post-harvest festival, known as 'Busu', commenced on Wednesday at Dishru Maloayam, Maibang, located in Dima Hasao district, showcasing vibrant traditions and cultural richness.
The inaugural day featured a variety of traditional games, sports competitions, folklore performances, and ancient rituals, all of which highlighted the Dimasa people's rich cultural heritage.
This festival aims to preserve and promote Dimasa traditions, ensuring they are passed down to future generations, and attracted enthusiastic participation from locals and visitors alike.
In the evening, Debolal Gorlosa, the Chief Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), officially opened the 'Baikho', the traditional dance hall, in front of a large audience. During his speech, Gorlosa emphasized the importance of protecting their customs and cultural identity, warning against any attempts to alter or diminish traditional practices.
Earlier, Monjoy Langthasa and Mohet Hojai, the president and secretary of the Central Busu Celebration Committee, welcomed the chief guest and attendees, underscoring the role of Busu in fostering social harmony and cultural pride.
The celebrations were further enlivened by several dance troupes from Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, and other regions of Assam, who delivered mesmerizing traditional dance performances that captivated the audience.
Additionally, a souvenir from the celebration committee and a book by Sadananda Waibra were unveiled during the event.
The festival will proceed on Thursday with additional cultural programs, traditional rituals, and community activities, reinforcing the Dimasa people's rich cultural legacy.
