Palampur – Today marked the 79th Sub-Divisional Independence Day celebration at the Joint Office Complex in Palampur, filled with enthusiasm. The national flag was hoisted by SDM Palampur, Netra Meti, who also oversaw the march past. The event was graced by the presence of Palampur MLA Ashish Butail as the special guest.


In her address, the SDM conveyed Independence Day wishes to everyone and reflected on the sacrifices made by the nation's heroes during the freedom struggle, encouraging all to draw inspiration from their valor. She recognized the families of Shaheed Major Somnath Sharma, Shaheed Captain Saurav Kalia, and Shaheed Major Sudhir Balia. Additionally, sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation were honored during the ceremony.



Students from various local schools showcased patriotic cultural performances that captivated the audience.


Prior to the celebrations, the MLA, SDM, along with Mayor Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Rajkumar, council members, Municipal Commissioner Ashish Sharma, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, Block Development Officer Bhanu Pratap Singh, Trade Association President Surender Sood, Joint Trade Association President Sanjeev Soni, and special guests including Dr. N. K. Kalia (father of Shaheed Captain Saurav Kalia), Vaibhav Kalia (brother), Radhika (niece of Major Somnath Sharma), and Asha Balia (sister of Major Sudhir Balia), paid floral tributes to the statues of freedom fighters and martyrs.
