International Women's Day Celebration Kicks Off

On Saturday, Indian Paralympic medalist Preethi Pal graced the opening ceremony of a three-day celebration for International Women's Day, hosted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. This event gathered numerous esteemed guests and participants to honor the global observance of Women's Day on March 8.


Ceremonial Inauguration and Activities

Preethi Pal commenced the festivities by lighting the ceremonial lamp. After the inauguration, she participated in a yoga session alongside other guests and women jawans from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), emphasizing the fitness activities planned for the event.


Dignitaries and Their Contributions

The ceremony featured notable figures such as nutritionist Nidhi Nigam, Yukti Arya, celebrity nutritionist Tanvee Tutlani, and Nivedita Shreyansh. These guests were acknowledged for their significant contributions across various sectors, including sports, nutrition, entrepreneurship, and community development.


Recognizing a Sporting Champion

The 25-year-old sprinter, who has achieved remarkable success in para-athletics, was honored for her accomplishments, which include winning a bronze medal at the Paralympics and receiving the esteemed Arjuna Award.


Advocating for Fitness and Healthy Living

The event underscored the importance of fitness and healthy living, aligning with the Fit India Movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Launched on August 29, 2019, this initiative encourages citizens to embrace an active lifestyle and integrate fitness into their daily routines.


Nationwide Sporting Events for Women's Day

In celebration of International Women's Day, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced plans for a nationwide mass participation sporting event under the ASMITA initiative. This program will be executed by the Sports Authority of India in partnership with MY Bharat.


Ansuman Prasad Das, the My Bharat AP State Director, shared that the ASMITA events are set to take place in 250 locations. He expects a robust turnout from women aged 14 to 28, who will engage in various sports as part of this initiative. "On March 8, we will celebrate International Women's Day uniquely across 250 locations, with a focus on athletics events like the 100m, 200m, and 400m. We anticipate significant participation and positive outcomes from this program," Das informed reporters.
