A Heartfelt Literary Gathering in Indore
Indore. Recently, a two-day literary event was held at the Jaal Sabhagriha to honor the renowned storyteller and Padma Shri awardee, Malti Joshi. This event was organized by her sons, Rishikesh and Sachchidanand. The gathering saw the presence of notable figures from literature, art, and social sectors. The significance of the date and venue was heightened as June 4 marked Malti Ji's 91st birthday, and she held a special affection for Indore. It is worth noting that she passed away last year at the age of ninety.
Event Highlights and Notable Attendees
The program was structured by Malti Ji's younger son, Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, who is also the Secretary of the Indira Gandhi National Art Centre and a well-known author. The Joshi family, along with literary figures, theater artists, and friends from Indore, contributed to the event's realization.
Both days of the event focused on Malti Ji's literary works. Among the attendees were former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Tai Mahajan, renowned journalist and poet Prof. Saroj Kumar, senior storyteller Suryakant Nagar, former Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, author Jyoti Jain, and journalist Nirmala Bhuradia.
Inauguration of 'Smriti Kalp'
Rishikesh Joshi delivered the welcome address and outlined the event's purpose. He also announced the establishment of a trust in memory of Malti Ji. Her brother, Mr. Chandrashekhar Dighe, shared his memories of her.
During the event, a book titled 'Smriti Kalp,' dedicated to Malti Ji's memories, was launched. Three distinguished authors—Ms. Anita Saxena, Ms. Anita Singh, and Mr. Sanjay Patel—read excerpts from her stories, continuing the tradition of storytelling that Malti Ji was known for. Notably, she had the remarkable ability to narrate her tales without looking at the text, captivating her audience.
Theatrical Performances and Storytelling
Under the direction of renowned theater artist Shri Ram Jog, performers from Natya Bharati, Indore, staged two of Malti Ji's stories, providing a unique experience for the audience.
On the second day, Sachchidanand Joshi highlighted Malti Ji's contributions and shared some of his rare, unheard experiences with her. Esteemed artists, including Shri Santosh Mohanti, Ms. Archana Mandloi, and Mr. Milind Deshpande, participated in the storytelling session.
Additionally, under the direction of acclaimed artist and filmmaker Kalakankar Vivek Sawrikar, performers from Rang Mohini Bhopal presented two of Malti Ji's stories in a distinctive manner. Notably, actor Jyoti Sawrikar brought Malti Ji's character to life through his performance.
A Full House and Heartfelt Tributes
The Jaal Sabhagriha, with a capacity of nearly three hundred, was filled to capacity on both days, reflecting the love and admiration of Malti Ji's readers.
Malti Ji's daughters-in-law, Malavika and Archana, expressed their gratitude at the conclusion of the event. The program was hosted by Shantanu Joshi, while Tanvi Joshi beautifully sang Malti Ji's poems. Dushyant Joshi organized an exhibition showcasing the simplicity of Malti Ji's life.
