A Milestone Birthday

On April 20, Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu celebrates his 76th birthday. Affectionately known as CBN or Chandrababu, he is the national president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Naidu is recognized as one of the longest-serving chief ministers in the state's history. His life symbolizes struggle, development, and a strategic vision, playing a pivotal role in the advancement of IT and infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh. Let's explore some intriguing aspects of his life on this special occasion.

Early Life and Family Background

Chandrababu Naidu was born on April 20, 1950, in a humble farming family in Naravaripalle village, Chittoor district. His father, Nara Kharjura Naidu, was a farmer, and his mother, Amanamma, supported the family. He graduated in economics from Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati and pursued a master's degree in 1974. Although he began a PhD, he could not complete it due to his political commitments.

Entry into Politics

Naidu's political journey began during his student years, where he emerged as a student leader. In the 1970s, he joined the Youth Congress and later held local positions during Indira Gandhi's tenure. At the age of 28, he was elected as an MLA from the Chandragiri constituency in 1978 and served as a minister in the state government from 1980 to 1983.

Connection with TDP and NTR

In 1980, Naidu married Bhuvaneshwari, the daughter of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), who was a legendary actor and the founder of TDP. NTR established the party in 1983 and came to power. In 1984, Naidu played a crucial role in rescuing the party from a political crisis, gradually becoming one of NTR's closest allies. By 1985, he was appointed as the general secretary of TDP.

First Term as Chief Minister

In 1994, TDP won the elections again, but a significant shift occurred in 1995 when Naidu ousted his father-in-law NTR to assume the chief ministership. This moment is considered one of the most controversial turning points in his political career.

Transforming Hyderabad into a Hi-Tech Hub

From 1995 to 2004, Naidu served as chief minister twice, focusing on transforming Andhra Pradesh into an IT hub and developing Hyderabad as Cyberabad. His policies attracted international attention, leading to visits from global leaders like Bill Clinton and Tony Blair. After the Congress victory in 2004, he moved to the opposition but continued to play an active role in state politics.

First CM of Divided Andhra Pradesh

With the formation of Telangana in 2014, Andhra Pradesh underwent reorganization. TDP won the elections again, and Naidu became the first chief minister of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh. During this term, he focused on developing Amaravati as the new capital.

A Strong Comeback

Following the YSR Congress's victory in 2019, Naidu found himself in opposition, facing numerous political and legal challenges. However, TDP made a remarkable comeback in the 2024 assembly elections, leading to Naidu taking the oath of office for the fourth time on June 12, 2024. He is regarded as a visionary leader, despite the ups and downs of his political journey.
