Celebrating JP Nadda: A Journey from Student Politics to National Leadership
A Milestone Birthday
On December 2, JP Nadda, the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the current Health Minister in the Modi government, is celebrating his 65th birthday. His political journey began in student politics, where he became active and eventually rose to the position of a central minister. Nadda's political career has been marked by various ups and downs. Let's explore some intriguing aspects of his life on this special occasion.
Early Life and Education
Born on December 2, 1960, in Patna, Bihar, JP Nadda completed his early education before earning a BA from Patna University. He later pursued an LLB from Himachal Pradesh University. Nadda's political involvement started during his student years, becoming active in politics around 1983-84.
Political Career
Following his student activism, Nadda began working with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and later joined the BJP. In 1993, the BJP faced a challenging situation in Himachal Pradesh, prompting the central leadership to send Nadda back to contest elections. At that time, only eight BJP members managed to secure seats in the assembly, leading to a Congress government. Nadda, alongside senior leader Jagdev Chand, contested on a BJP ticket.
Tragically, Jagdev Chand passed away before taking the oath, resulting in Nadda being elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party. This marked Nadda's re-emergence in Himachal politics. From 1993 to 1998, he led the BJP legislative party in the assembly. Although he lost to Congress's Tilak Raj in 2003 while serving as a minister, he achieved victory in 2007. However, due to conflicts with local leaders, Nadda transitioned to national politics and became a Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh.
Rise to Prominence
In 2019, Nadda was not given a ministerial position. However, on June 19, 2021, he was appointed as the working president of the BJP, and in 2020, he was elected as the party president. Currently, he continues to serve as the national president of the BJP and holds the position of Health Minister in the Modi government. Nadda has successfully transitioned from the politics of a small hilly state to making a significant impact on the national political landscape.
