Sports Icons Celebrate Independence Day

On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, prominent Indian sports figures, including rising cricket star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Olympic hockey champion PR Sreejesh, and dual Olympic medalist shooter Manu Bhaker, shared their heartfelt wishes with the nation.

Sooryavanshi took to social media to share a montage celebrating India's cricketing milestones, featuring legendary moments like the ICC Cricket World Cup victories in 1983 and 2011, as well as the anticipated wins in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2024 T20 World Cup, showcasing icons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.

Manu Bhaker also expressed her sentiments by posting a picture with the Indian flag, wishing everyone a joyous Independence Day.

PR Sreejesh, a celebrated figure in Indian hockey, shared his pride in the nation's history and future aspirations, stating, "Proud of our past, committed to our future. Jai Hind! Happy Independence Day!"

PM Modi's Vision for Indian Sports

During his address from the historic Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India's growing prowess in sports and the nation's ambition to host the 2036 Olympics.

He pointed out that while there are approximately 40 sports and around 325-350 events in the Olympics, India currently does not compete in or qualify for nearly two-thirds of them. He mentioned, "In 2030, India is also going to host the Commonwealth Games. We have decided that the Olympics 2036 should be held in India."

PM Modi announced a nationwide talent identification initiative aimed at children aged five to 15, stating, "We need to focus on our sons and daughters. A talent hunt campaign will be launched in every village, city, and school to discover sporting talent among young children."

Talent Hunt Initiative for Future Olympians

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of nurturing young athletes for the upcoming Olympics, asserting that identified talents would receive specialized training to prepare them for international competition.

"Their talent will be recognized, and after providing them with specialized training, they will be groomed to represent our country at the highest levels," PM Modi concluded.
