For many years, Ghulam Nabi Azad was regarded as a significant face of the Congress party, largely due to his close ties with the Gandhi family. Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

Azad entered active politics in 1973 and steadily climbed the ranks within Congress. In 2005, he became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Throughout his 50-year political career, he served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha twice and in the Rajya Sabha five times. Additionally, he was a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in 2006 and 2008.
