A Tribute to India's Farmers

The 72nd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle turned into a nationwide celebration, honoring India's farmers, known as annadata. This event emphasized fitness, sustainability, and community involvement, as farmers, agricultural stakeholders, and citizens united for the special "Annadata Fitness Ride," inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Delhi's Festive Fitness Gathering

At the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex in New Delhi, the event kicked off with vibrant energy. Participants from diverse backgrounds engaged in high-energy Zumba sessions, yoga, rope skipping, and interactive games, creating a festive atmosphere.

After the flag-off, cyclists rode along a route promoting the message "Pedal chalao, prakriti bachao." The event featured notable dignitaries, including Anissa Nabi Jikas, Chief Sports Officer of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council; Krishna Kumar from Bhartiya Kisan Sangh; and Vikram Singh Farswan, National In-charge of Agrivision Bharat, highlighting the vital role of farmers in fostering a healthier, self-reliant India.

Community Voices

Anissa Nabi, a Fit India Ambassador, spoke about the importance of inclusivity in fitness, stating, "Cycling is an activity that people of all ages can enjoy. It keeps us fit and fosters community spirit."

Krishna Kumar echoed this sentiment, noting, "Cycling is prevalent in farms and villages. This initiative promotes health and awareness effectively."

Participants expressed their enthusiasm, with Ramesh Yadav from Rohini stating, "I thought it was just a cycle ride, but it feels like a celebration of our farmers and lifestyle." College student Priya Sharma remarked, "Seeing farmers and youth cycling together is inspiring. It shows fitness can unite everyone." Sunil Mehta added, "The energy here motivates you to make cycling a daily habit, not just a Sunday activity."

Nationwide Participation

Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with various organizations, including the Cycling Federation of India and the Indian Rope Skipping Federation. The 'Annadata' theme resonated across the country, with significant events held at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar, where agricultural students and farmers participated.

In Gwalior, students from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education organized a cycling rally, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kalpana Sharma, to promote environmental conservation. Bikaner and Ludhiana also hosted vibrant events, engaging students and local stakeholders in fitness activities.

A Growing Movement

Launched in December 2024 by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a significant movement, with over 28 lakh citizens participating across more than 2.63 lakh locations nationwide. The cycling initiative occurs simultaneously in all States and Union Territories, including various sports and training centers.

By centering farmers in this edition, Sundays on Cycle strengthened the connection between health, the environment, and those who nourish the nation.
