Celebrating 650th Birth Anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas with Nationwide Events
Nationwide Celebration of Sant Guru Ravidas's Legacy
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), July 28 - In honor of the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj, sacred soil from his birthplace at Sir Govardhan will be distributed in 131 urns across Uttar Pradesh and 27 other states. This initiative aims to promote the teachings of social harmony and humanity advocated by Sant Ravidas, with worship ceremonies planned in villages and communities.
On July 29, coinciding with Guru Purnima, a special event will take place at the birthplace of Sant Ravidas. Dr. Lal Singh Arya, the national president of the BJP Scheduled Caste Front, announced that prominent figures including BJP President Nitin Naveen, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and state BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary will attend, along with representatives from the saint community nationwide.
To review the preparations for the anniversary celebrations, BJP state general secretary Dharmapal Singh held a meeting at the Circuit House in Varanasi on Monday. He discussed arrangements for hospitality, traffic management, parking, and security. Dharmapal Singh emphasized that the life of Sant Ravidas conveys an eternal message of social harmony, equality, humanity, and spiritual awareness, inspiring society towards unity and peace.
Dr. Arya further mentioned that the event will include the worship and aarti of the 131 urns filled with sacred soil, along with a public gathering. On July 28, 131 groups from various parts of the country will arrive at Sir Govardhanpur to fill the urns with the holy soil.
On July 30, the 131 urns will be dispatched via vehicles to 98 organizational districts in Uttar Pradesh, as well as to 27 states and six regions across the country. This initiative aims to ensure that the sacred soil from the birthplace of Ravidas reaches villages and communities nationwide for worship. Arya also announced that from July 29, 2026, to February 20, 2027, the BJP will launch a nationwide campaign titled 'Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas Social Harmony Campaign,' aimed at spreading the ideals of social harmony, equality, and brotherhood championed by Sant Ravidas.
Additionally, on July 29, a Diwali celebration will be held in temples across the country, connecting every segment of society to this campaign through the veneration of the urns.
