Grand Conclusion of the SJFI National Convention
The Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) marked its Golden Jubilee with a spectacular closing ceremony at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday. Rohan Jaitley, President of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), highlighted the crucial bond between sports journalists and administrators during the event.
Importance of Feedback in Sports Administration
"Maintaining a balance between cricket administration and journalistic critique is vital. Constructive criticism helps us identify our shortcomings and improve," Jaitley stated.
Cash Prize for North Zone Champions
Jaitley also announced a cash reward of ₹5 lakh for the North Zone team, led by Akash Rawal, who triumphed in the JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 Cricket Tournament. "As the North Zone emerged victorious, I am pleased to declare a cash prize of ₹5 lakh for the winning team," he remarked.
Honoring World Cup Cricketers
During the ceremony, the DDCA recognized Pratika Rawal, a member of the India Women's World Cup-winning team, with a reward of ₹51 lakh. Additionally, Uddhav Mohan, part of the India U-19 Men's World Cup squad, received ₹11 lakh.
Dignitaries Attend the Golden Jubilee Convention
The four-day Golden Jubilee convention, organized by the Delhi Sports Journalists Association (DSJA), attracted sports media professionals nationwide for networking and discussions.
On the inaugural day, Smt Raksha Khadse, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, along with sports secretary Hari Ranjan Rao, addressed the attendees.
On March 14, journalists engaged in a special session with Anurag Thakur, a Member of Parliament and former Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.
Sports Conclave with Key Figures
The event featured a significant sports conclave with prominent figures such as ICC Chairman Jay Shah, BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla, and Archery Association of India Secretary General Virendra Sachdeva.
Recognition of Sports and Corporate Leaders
Day 4 of the convention saw the recognition of various dignitaries from the sports and corporate sectors, including Sminu Jindal, Akhilesh Yadav, Neha Mathur Rastogi, Rakesh Mishra, and Krishan Kumar Tak.
The SJFI President and Secretary also honored Sangeeta Baroova, the first female President of the Sports Journalist Federation of India, along with 18 state presidents and secretaries.
Reflections on a Historic Event
"Hosting the Golden Jubilee convention in the capital has been a significant honor for the DSJA," stated Abhishek Tripathi, President of the DSJA. "Our aim was to foster an environment where the fraternity could celebrate its legacy while enjoying the sports we cover daily."
Saraju Chakraborty, President of the SJFI, remarked, "Reaching fifty years signifies the resilience of sports journalism in India. This convention honored our past while paving the way for a progressive future."
Sabi Hussain, Secretary of the DSJA, expressed gratitude to sponsors, emphasizing that organizing such a large-scale event was only possible with their support.
Tournament Results
JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 Cricket Tournament
In the cricket tournament, North Zone triumphed over East Zone by 10 wickets. East Zone posted a score of 135/6 in 20 overs, with Pranab Shil contributing an unbeaten 47. North Zone successfully chased the target in just 9.5 overs, led by Rishabh Singh's unbeaten 87.
In another match, West Zone defeated South Zone by 10 wickets after bowling them out for 97.
AC Bali Table Tennis Tournament
The AC Bali Table Tennis Tournament showcased fierce competition, with the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai-1 clinching the team championship. Amol Karhadkar secured the men's singles title and, alongside Ashwin, won the men's doubles title.
The evening concluded with a dinner hosted by DDCA President Rohan Jaitley, marking a celebratory end to the landmark Golden Jubilee convention.
