Azad stated that singing the national anthem instills a sense of pride, and it is essential to honor the contributions of revolutionaries.

Historical Context of Vande Mataram

During the era of Jawaharlal Nehru, certain lines dedicated to deities were removed from Vande Mataram. BJP MP Arun Govil highlighted that the current discussion aims to raise awareness about the national anthem and address the controversies surrounding it. He noted that the removal of these lines during Nehru's time has led to repeated questioning of the anthem's significance, making this debate necessary.

Congress MP Raises Concerns

Before the discussion on Vande Mataram's 150th anniversary in Parliament, Congress MP Sukdev Bhagat expressed concerns about the timing of the debate. He pointed out that while the Prime Minister will lead the discussion, the Rajya Sabha bulletin indicates that singing Vande Mataram may contradict parliamentary decorum.
