CBSE Leadership Changes Amid Cyber Attack Investigation
Government Reshuffles CBSE Leadership
In response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, the central government has transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta. A committee has been established to investigate the procurement of OSM services by the CBSE. This decision follows a series of cyber attacks on the CBSE's re-evaluation portal, which reported over 1.5 million hits in just two minutes and more than 100,000 unauthorized access attempts, as noted in a post by CBSE on X. By 3 PM today, over 16,000 students had successfully submitted their entries, according to the same post.
Cyber Attacks Disrupt Student Services
Today, thousands of students utilized the CBSE re-evaluation portal while malicious actors attempted to disrupt services through a barrage of cyber attacks. The most recent incident was a 'Denial of Service Attack,' which resulted in 1.5 million hits on the portal within just two minutes and over 100,000 attempts to access files unlawfully. Following student feedback, the board has enhanced the platform to make the process more convenient, including extending session deadlines.
Education Ministry Demands Detailed Report
The Ministry of Education has requested a comprehensive report from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regarding the contract awarded to the service provider COEMPT related to the OSM system. Sources indicate that the ministry has asked CBSE to present complete details of the tender process, including the procedures followed during the contract award and the names of officials involved in the decision-making process.
Increased Scrutiny Following Irregularities
This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the OSM system after several students reported irregularities in the answer sheets uploaded during the re-evaluation process. Sources have revealed that the ministry has already gathered preliminary information related to the tender process and is investigating various aspects of the awarded contracts.
