Mumbai, June 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Thursday that it has successfully facilitated the deportation of Ganesh Balaso Kale, who was subject to a Red Notice, from Thailand back to India.
This operation was executed in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and the Indian Embassy in Bangkok.
Officials revealed that Kale is implicated in a cybercrime scheme where victims were enticed with offers of online part-time employment. They were instructed to make monetary deposits as investments, only to be defrauded later.
Investigators indicated that Kale managed a network of cybercriminals, involving numerous unsuspecting individuals in the fraudulent activities. "He would entice victims with promises of interest or commission for permitting the use of their bank accounts to transfer illicit funds, ultimately using these accounts to defraud multiple innocent individuals," officials stated.
Additionally, the accused allegedly directed accomplices to procure mobile phones and fake SIM cards to facilitate the commission of these crimes, according to CBI officials.
Following the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice, Kale was located in Thailand and detained by local authorities on May 24 in Bangkok. After legal proceedings and close cooperation between Indian and Thai officials, he was successfully deported to India.
Officials confirmed that a Red Corner Notice for Kale was issued in May, and he was located, apprehended, and returned to India within approximately 20 days of the notice being issued.
Upon his arrival at Mumbai Airport on Thursday, the Maharashtra Police's Cyber Cell took him into custody.
"The CBI, acting as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, collaborates with all law enforcement agencies in the country through BHARATPOL for assistance via INTERPOL channels," officials noted.
In recent years, over 160 wanted criminals have been successfully repatriated to India through the coordinated efforts of various agencies.
