Major Breakthrough in Mahadev Online Betting Case

In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has achieved a major milestone in the high-profile Mahadev online betting network case. The alleged mastermind and main accused, Saurabh Chandrakar, has been successfully extradited from Oman to India. This operation was part of a collaborative effort involving various central investigative agencies, with a special CBI team bringing the accused back to India.

Upon arrival, Saurabh Chandrakar will undergo a mandatory medical examination, after which the CBI plans to seek a transit remand from the court. He is expected to be presented in a special CBI court in Raipur on Monday.

Long-Standing Wanted Status

It is noteworthy that Saurabh Chandrakar had been on the run for a considerable time, being wanted in two major cases by the CBI, which had already filed charges against him. Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also lodged a prosecution complaint against him in a separate case.

Largest Betting Network Operated from Abroad

Following a formal request from the Chhattisgarh government, the CBI took over the investigation into the Mahadev online betting case. According to the agency's findings, this was one of the largest and most organized illegal online betting syndicates in the country, operating entirely from foreign soil. Through this illicit digital platform, massive online bets were placed on cricket, football, card games, and other events.

The investigation revealed a vast network of panels and branches based on a franchise model spread across various states, which attracted the public to gambling and collected substantial amounts in bets.

Money Laundering Operations Exposed

The CBI's thorough investigation has uncovered a scheme to launder the illicit earnings from illegal betting. The agency reported that this illegal money was initially funneled through numerous fake and mule bank accounts. Subsequently, these large sums were transferred abroad via hawala networks.

The CBI has also made serious allegations that a significant portion of this illicit income was paid as protection money to certain public officials, allowing the betting syndicate to operate without interruptions.

Charges Filed Under Multiple Laws

In this case, the CBI has filed charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with sections of the Indian Penal Code related to criminal conspiracy, fraud, and forgery, as well as the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act.
