Major Arrest in Bank Fraud Case

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended Kamlesh Parekh, a fugitive implicated in a significant bank fraud case involving Rs 2,672 crore, following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.

Parekh was sought in connection with a fraud case against Shree Ganesh Jewellery House (I) Ltd, based in Kolkata, and was extradited from the UAE on Friday.

The CBI initiated the investigation in 2016, alleging that the company and its associates defrauded a consortium of 25 banks out of Rs 2,672 crore.

According to a CBI spokesperson, Parekh, who has been on the run since the investigation commenced, was formally charged on December 31, 2022.

In 2019, an open-ended non-bailable warrant was issued for his arrest, and a Red Corner Notice was subsequently released through Interpol in 2024. Following this, UAE authorities detained him based on the notice, leading to his extradition to India.
