High Court Urged to Investigate Recruitment Irregularities

In a public interest litigation concerning Mega DSC-2025, senior advocate and former Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh, S. Shriram Subrahmanyam, has requested the Andhra Pradesh High Court to mandate a CBI investigation into the entire recruitment process.

He argued that the alleged irregularities were not isolated incidents but indicative of a significant systemic flaw affecting the fairness and integrity of the recruitment. After hearing the arguments, the Andhra Pradesh High Court scheduled the next hearing for three weeks later.

Subrahmanyam contended that the government made substantial changes to the sports quota policy just before announcing the Mega DSC-2025 notification. He noted that the reservation under the sports quota was increased from 2% to 3%, and the requirement to pass an entrance exam was removed. According to the lawyer, these modifications benefitted a pre-determined group of candidates and were made without transparency. He claimed that several candidates allegedly secured jobs based on sports certificates that did not meet the established eligibility criteria. He presented samples of these certificates in court, arguing that some candidates participated only in local competitions rather than recognized state or national events. He stated that these instances reveal a pattern of irregularities rather than isolated mistakes.

Subrahmanyam explained that following public criticism, the government retracted the orders related to the sports quota. He argued that this retraction raised serious questions about the changes in policy and justified the need for an independent investigation.

The lawyer informed the court that most of the information used was obtained through Right to Information (RTI) applications and other public sources. He mentioned that only a few examples were presented in court because the government had not released the complete merit list. He noted that many affected candidates did not come to court due to fears of legal repercussions and intimidation. He also argued that government communications discouraged the publication of allegations related to the recruitment process. He assured the court that he would provide supporting materials.
