CBI Arrests Giribala Singh Following High Court Ruling in Twisha Sharma Case

The CBI has arrested Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, after the Madhya Pradesh High Court revoked her anticipatory bail. This decision follows a detailed examination of the case, including allegations of harassment and manipulation of evidence. Twisha's family has welcomed the court's ruling, asserting that justice is being served. Giribala, however, has denied all accusations, claiming Twisha struggled with substance abuse. The investigation is ongoing, with the CBI now leading the inquiry into the circumstances of Twisha's tragic death.

CBI Takes Action After High Court Decision

In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, just a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court annulled her anticipatory bail. The retired judge was taken into custody following an extensive six-and-a-half-hour interrogation by the agency. Previously, on May 15, a sessions court had granted her anticipatory bail, but this was revoked by the High Court in light of the case's factual circumstances and the allegations against Giribala. Justice Dev Narayan Mishra, in a detailed 17-page ruling, noted that Twisha's post-mortem report indicated she sustained additional injuries prior to her death, which were not caused by the removal of the body or transportation to a hospital.

Family's Reaction and Legal Representation

Twisha's family expressed their approval of the High Court's decision, stating that justice has been served. Anurag Srivastava, the lawyer representing the victim's family, remarked that Giribala had a long career in the judiciary spanning 36 years. He urged her to respect the law and voluntarily cooperate with the CBI during the ongoing investigation.

Allegations Against Giribala and Counterclaims

The family of Twisha has accused Giribala and her son, Samarth Singh, of subjecting their daughter to harassment stemming from dowry demands. They allege that both Giribala and Samarth inflicted severe mental torment on Twisha and manipulated the crime scene. However, during a press conference on May 18, Giribala refuted all allegations, claiming that Twisha had a substance abuse problem, a statement that Twisha's family vehemently denies. Giribala, who presides over a consumer court in Bhopal, further accused Twisha's family of attempting to tarnish her reputation. She stated earlier this month that they were trying to influence the case. Meanwhile, police have seized CCTV footage from Giribala's residence in Bhopal, and the case has been handed over to the CBI, which is currently investigating.
