Guwahati, April 19: With nearly a month separating the election day from the vote counting, candidates are experiencing a tense wait to learn their electoral fate. The Assam Legislative Assembly elections took place on April 9, while the counting is scheduled for May 4.

First-Time Candidate's Experience

Kunki Chowdhury, the youngest candidate and a newcomer to the political arena, shared her thoughts on the waiting period. She mentioned that she is attempting to keep her mind off the results.

Reflecting on her campaign in the Central Guwahati constituency, she described it as a transformative experience, stating, “I walked nearly 15 km daily for about 10 days, engaging with a diverse range of people and discovering Central Guwahati.”

As a novice in politics, she also faced her first encounter with political attacks. “I expected some mudslinging, but not from senior leaders,” she noted, adding that regardless of the outcome, she intends to remain involved in politics.

Independent Candidate's Challenges

Meanwhile, Jayanta Das, who left the BJP to run as an independent in the Dispur constituency, expressed the stress of the prolonged wait for results. He likened it to his school days when he awaited exam results.

Discussing his campaign, Das mentioned the challenges of running without party support. Although he had friends and supporters, they lacked political experience. He acknowledged receiving positive feedback from voters but lamented the limited time for campaigning, which prevented him from reaching all key areas in his constituency. “I had good support, but I wish I could have visited the entire constituency,” he remarked.
