Canadian Mayor Calls for Lawrence Bishnoi Gang to be Labeled as Terrorists
Urgent Appeal to Federal Government
Brenda Locke, the Mayor of Surrey, has made a strong request to the Canadian Federal government to classify the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and other similar groups involved in extortion and violence against Canadians of South Asian heritage as terrorist organizations under Canadian law.
In her remarks, Mayor Locke emphasized that designating the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity would enhance the capabilities of Canadian law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime and safeguarding both residents and businesses.
Highlighting a series of violent incidents and extortion cases allegedly orchestrated by the Bishnoi gang and its associates, Locke pointed out that these actions represent not merely criminal behavior but also constitute 'economic terrorism.'
This is not the first instance where Canadian officials have called for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to be recognized as a terrorist organization.
Recently, Brampton's Mayor Patrick Brown, along with Deputy Mayor Harkirat Singh and several Councillors, sent a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Minister of Public Safety advocating for this classification.
Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster from Punjab, is currently incarcerated in Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Central Jail. He is infamous for orchestrating criminal activities and ordering hits on rivals from within this high-security facility, and he has been implicated in various crimes, including allegations from the Canadian government regarding his role in inciting gang violence and extortion in Canada.
Additionally, Bishnoi's close associate, Goldy Brar, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the gang's global operations, has reportedly had a falling out with Bishnoi.
Media reports suggest that Bishnoi and Goldy Brar have gone their separate ways, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Brar gained notoriety following the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala and is also accused of orchestrating a shooting at Punjabi singer AP Dhillon's residence in Canada last year.
