Can Trump Broker Peace Between Iran and Israel? His Bold Claims Spark Debate

Trump's Ambitious Peace Proposals

New York/Washington: On Sunday, former US President Donald Trump asserted that he could facilitate a peace agreement between Iran and Israel, similar to his previous claims of mediating conflicts between other nations. He reiterated his assertion that he played a role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan last month through trade negotiations.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that numerous discussions and meetings are currently underway regarding this matter.

"Iran and Israel should reach an agreement, and they will, just as I helped India and Pakistan come to terms, utilizing trade with the United States to foster reason and cooperation among the leaders involved," Trump stated.

The Indian government has consistently maintained that an understanding was achieved on May 10 to cease hostilities following four days of severe cross-border drone and missile exchanges, without any external mediation.

Recently, Israel conducted airstrikes on Iran, targeting its nuclear and military facilities, prompting Iran to retaliate with missile strikes on Israeli territory, escalating tensions further.

In his post, Trump highlighted other conflicts where he claimed to have intervened successfully to halt violence.

He recalled that during his presidency, the long-standing conflict between Serbia and Kosovo was on the brink of war, which he claimed to have prevented.

"I stopped it (though Biden's decisions have negatively impacted long-term prospects, I will rectify it again!). Another example is the dispute between Egypt and Ethiopia over a significant dam affecting the Nile River. My intervention has ensured peace, at least for now!"

He expressed optimism about achieving peace between Israel and Iran soon, stating, "Many discussions are currently taking place. I do a lot, yet rarely receive acknowledgment, but the people understand. LET'S MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!"

Approximately two weeks after the tragic April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 civilian fatalities, India initiated Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to halt hostilities after four days of intense military exchanges.

Sources from the Indian government in New Delhi have confirmed that the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both nations reached a consensus to cease all military actions across land, air, and sea immediately, without any third-party involvement.

On May 10, Trump claimed on social media that India and Pakistan had consented to a "full and immediate" ceasefire following extensive talks mediated by Washington.

He has reiterated this claim multiple times, asserting that he "helped resolve" the tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors by suggesting that the United States would engage in significant trade with them if they halted their conflict.
